Christmas Party Supplies and Christmas Decorations

Personalize Your Christmas Party Favors

history of Christmas actually dates back to over 4,000 years ago, and it can be traced by to the Mesopotamians, long before the birth of Christ. Many Christmas traditions came about while the Mesopotamians were celebrating their New Year. A twelve-day festival, called Zagmuk, began to help Marduk, their chief god, do battle with many monstrous beasts.

Many Europeans believed that during the Winter Solstice, the evil spirits would prevent the sun from returning and warming the earth. They had celebrations and rituals to welcome the sun back.

In Scandinavian countries, the sun would disappear for many days during the winter. Scouts were sent to the top of the mountains to search for the sun after thirty-five days. A Yuletide festival ensued when the scouts returned with the good news that they had seen the light of the sun returning. A feast would take place around a burning Yule log, and large bonfires would also take place to celebrate this joyous occasion. Some people would tie apples to the branches of trees reminding them of the coming spring and summer months. This is reminiscent of our Christmas tree decorating ritual of today.

When the Romans celebrated with a festival called Saturnalia, named after their god Saturn, there were masquerades and great meals, visiting and gift-giving, which represented the exchange of good luck treats. Their halls were decked with garlands, and trees were lit with candles.

Traditionally, baby showers were given only for the family’s first child, and only women were invited. The original intent was for women to share wisdom and lessons on the art of becoming a mother.
Over time, it has become common to hold them for subsequent or adopted children. It is not uncommon for a parent to have more than one baby shower, such as one with friends and another with co-worker.
However, this custom varies by culture or region and in some it is expected and customary for a close female family member to host the baby shower, often the grandmother.

Baby showers and other social events to celebrate the impending or recent birth are popular around the world. They are commonly “women-only” social gatherings.

A baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending or recent birth of a child by presenting gifts to the parents at a party. The term “shower” is often assumed to mean that the expectant mother is “showered” with gifts.

In Brazil, a party called “chá de bebê” (baby tea) is offered after birth and is often a “women-only” event.

In Chinese tradition, a baby shower, called manyue is held one month after the baby is born. Due to the lack of advanced medical technology in ancient times, the high infant mortality rate prompted families and friends to celebrate if a baby survived more than one month after birth.

In Costa Rica, a baby shower party is called té de canastilla (“basket tea”).

In Hindu tradition, they are called by different names depending on the community the family belongs to. In northern India it is known as godbharaai, in western India, especially Maharashtra, this celebration is known as dohaaljewan, and in West Bengal and Orissa it is called saadh. In Southern India, in Tamil Nadu it is called seemantam or Valaikaapu (The expecting mother wears bangles), and in Karnataka it is called shreemanta and is held when the woman is in her 5th or 7th or 9th months of pregnancy. These three types of celebrations are very similar to each other and are “women-only” events. There is music played, and the expecting mother is decked in traditional attire with lots of flowers and garlands made of jasmine or mogra. A swing is decorated with flowers of her choice, which she uses to sit and swing. At times there are symbolic cut-outs of Moons and Stars that are put up. There are blessings showered on her by the elderly ladies from the household and community. There are gifts given to the expecting mother. It is a very affectionate and fun-filled event for most of the expecting mothers since they are on the threshold of motherhood and entering a new life. In Kerala, it is known as Pulikudi, and is practiced predominantly in the Nair community, though it’s popularity has spread to other Hindu sects as well over the years. On an auspicious day, after being massaged with homemade ayurvedic oil, the woman has a customary bath with the help of the elderly women in the family. After this, the family deity is worshipped, invoking all the paradevatas (family deities) and a concoction of herbal medicines prepared in the traditional way, is given to the woman. The woman is dressed in new clothes and jewellery used for such occasions. A big difference in the western concept of baby shower and Hindu tradition is that the Hindu ceremony is a religious ceremony to pray for the well-being of the baby. In most conservative families gifts are bought for the mother-to-be but not the baby. The baby is showered with gifts only after birth.

In Islam adherents are required to perform aqiqah of newly born child. This involves sacrifice of sacrificial animals. The meat is eaten by relatives and friends which can involve inviting them at home for a feast.

In South Africa, a baby shower is called a stork party, and takes place typically when the mother is about 6 months pregnant. Stork parties are usually not attended by men, and South African men do not have an equivalent party of their own. The stork party is accompanied by silliness such as dressing up, and babycare related gifts are given to the mother. A stork party is often organised as a surprise without the mother’s knowledge.

In the United Kingdom, this is called wetting the baby’s head, and is a more common substitute to a baby shower, which is seen as a materialistic American custom. Wetting the baby’s head is traditionally when the father celebrates the birth by having a few drinks with a group of friends.

In Nepal baby shower is called Pasni. In is often done to the boys in 6 month of their birth and it is done to the girls in 5 months of their birth. People give money and other gifts during the baby shower.

What are the best wedding favors?
Wedding favors are small gifts given as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.
Wedding favors have become a part of wedding reception planning, especially in the United States and Canada. Wedding favors are diverse and usually complement the theme or season of the event. Classic favors can range from the classic sugared almonds or individual chocolates to candles and scented soaps. Modern gift trends include: CDs with the favorite music of the bride and groom, shot glasses filled with colored candy or silver picture frames with a photo of the couple. Gifts may also be personalized with the couple’s names, initials or wedding date.

Bella Lume is a company that makes high quality candles and scented oils that are inspired by aromas from around the world. Brenda was looking for new labeling that would make her products look as exquisite as they smell.

Because we have the laser cutting equipment necessary to make custom cuts, we’re able to accommodate any size label. So when Brenda needed a special size for her candle tins, we were happy to be able to make them for her.

11 Glam Fall Wedding Ideas

Need a little style inspiration for your fall wedding? We quizzed event planning experts in search of ideas that will make your ceremony and reception totally contemporary. In short, it’s all about texture, deliciously rich colors, glamorous touches, and a few elements that say (but don’t scream) “fall.”

Textured Linens

This season, wedding decor is all about texture. That means tablecloths in tactile, visually intriguing materials like quilted or ruched silk, linen, velvet, or even Ultrasuede. Use fabric with a crimped look or multiple textures (like organza embroidered with bits of chenille), or layer two tablecloths (think sheer velvet on top of taffeta).

Bright Accents

For an of-the-moment look, mix subdued neutrals with surprise pops of bright color. One stylish bride ordered custom-made napkins in natural linen with magenta silk undersides, which peeked just slightly when they were folded on the table.

Seasonal Napkins

Speaking of napkins, they’re a clever place to work in seasonal accents. Tie them with a small bundle of millet or a crab apple accent for a fall feel. Look for inexpensive seasonal napkin rings at places like Crate & Barrel or Pier 1 Imports (you’ll find simple but stunning ones in gold and silver, wood grain, resin, and great fall colors). You can also make your own napkin bands using velvet or grosgrain ribbon.

Fall Aisle Style

Add a seasonal touch to your ceremony by using shafts of wheat or bunches of grapes (real or faux) as aisle markers. It’s harvest season in the vineyards, so say your vows under a pergola covered with grape vines — even if you’re not in the wine country.

Metallic Details

Metallic accents continue to be huge, from classic silver and gold to more unexpected (and fitting for fall) pewter copper and bronze. Mercury glass vases will add glamorous pops of silver to cocktail tables and centerpieces. Gold and silver leaf accessories will liven up any table or place setting. Beyond vases, think napkin rings and framed photos telling the story of your relationship.
