Personalize Your Christmas Party Favors
history of Christmas actually dates back to over 4,000 years ago, and it can be traced by to the Mesopotamians, long before the birth of Christ. Many Christmas traditions came about while the Mesopotamians were celebrating their New Year. A twelve-day festival, called Zagmuk, began to help Marduk, their chief god, do battle with many monstrous beasts.
Many Europeans believed that during the Winter Solstice, the evil spirits would prevent the sun from returning and warming the earth. They had celebrations and rituals to welcome the sun back.
In Scandinavian countries, the sun would disappear for many days during the winter. Scouts were sent to the top of the mountains to search for the sun after thirty-five days. A Yuletide festival ensued when the scouts returned with the good news that they had seen the light of the sun returning. A feast would take place around a burning Yule log, and large bonfires would also take place to celebrate this joyous occasion. Some people would tie apples to the branches of trees reminding them of the coming spring and summer months. This is reminiscent of our Christmas tree decorating ritual of today.
When the Romans celebrated with a festival called Saturnalia, named after their god Saturn, there were masquerades and great meals, visiting and gift-giving, which represented the exchange of good luck treats. Their halls were decked with garlands, and trees were lit with candles.

What are the best wedding favors?
Wedding favors are small gifts given as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.
Wedding favors have become a part of wedding reception planning, especially in the United States and Canada. Wedding favors are diverse and usually complement the theme or season of the event. Classic favors can range from the classic sugared almonds or individual chocolates to candles and scented soaps. Modern gift trends include: CDs with the favorite music of the bride and groom, shot glasses filled with colored candy or silver picture frames with a photo of the couple. Gifts may also be personalized with the couple’s names, initials or wedding date.

| Bella Lume and Labelsonthefly.com
Last year, Labelsonthefly.com received a phone call from Brenda M. that started a great working relationship between Labelsonthefly.com and Bella Lume. Bella Lume is a company that makes high quality candles and scented oils that are inspired by aromas from around the world. Brenda was looking for new labeling that would make her products look as exquisite as they smell.
|
Labelsonthefly.com offers a variety of standard sizes for labels, but sometimes the size that is needed for a product is not a standard size. Because we have the laser cutting equipment necessary to make custom cuts, we’re able to accommodate any size label. So when Brenda needed a special size for her candle tins, we were happy to be able to make them for her. |
Since then, Bella Lume has placed several more label orders. Sometimes she needs the labels the next day, and we accommodate her whenever possible. Since we have her art on file, we are often able to print the same day, and ship them out UPS Overnight.
Bella Lume candles and reed diffusers were selected to appear in the Interntional Emmy celebrity gift bags in 2010. Bella Lume continues to be a valued customer, and we wish them the best of luck for continued success. |
|
| “I have been beyond impressed by the designers at Labels On The Fly. I have never written on a service before but in this case I felt I had to. Their customer service has been phenomenal and their design team has been an absolute pleasure to work with every step of the way.”

Need a little style inspiration for your fall wedding? We quizzed event planning experts in search of ideas that will make your ceremony and reception totally contemporary. In short, it’s all about texture, deliciously rich colors, glamorous touches, and a few elements that say (but don’t scream) “fall.”

Textured Linens
This season, wedding decor is all about texture. That means tablecloths in tactile, visually intriguing materials like quilted or ruched silk, linen, velvet, or even Ultrasuede. Use fabric with a crimped look or multiple textures (like organza embroidered with bits of chenille), or layer two tablecloths (think sheer velvet on top of taffeta).

Bright Accents
For an of-the-moment look, mix subdued neutrals with surprise pops of bright color. One stylish bride ordered custom-made napkins in natural linen with magenta silk undersides, which peeked just slightly when they were folded on the table.

Seasonal Napkins
Speaking of napkins, they’re a clever place to work in seasonal accents. Tie them with a small bundle of millet or a crab apple accent for a fall feel. Look for inexpensive seasonal napkin rings at places like Crate & Barrel or Pier 1 Imports (you’ll find simple but stunning ones in gold and silver, wood grain, resin, and great fall colors). You can also make your own napkin bands using velvet or grosgrain ribbon.

Fall Aisle Style
Add a seasonal touch to your ceremony by using shafts of wheat or bunches of grapes (real or faux) as aisle markers. It’s harvest season in the vineyards, so say your vows under a pergola covered with grape vines — even if you’re not in the wine country.

Metallic Details
Metallic accents continue to be huge, from classic silver and gold to more unexpected (and fitting for fall) pewter copper and bronze. Mercury glass vases will add glamorous pops of silver to cocktail tables and centerpieces. Gold and silver leaf accessories will liven up any table or place setting. Beyond vases, think napkin rings and framed photos telling the story of your relationship.

Avoiding Outdoor Wedding Pitfalls
By Nina Callaway, About.com Guide
If you’ve decided to have an outdoor wedding, congratulations! Outdoor weddings are romantic and beautiful. However, they aren’t as easy as they may look. Outdoor weddings come with additional caveats and pitfalls, but if you follow these tips, you’ll be sure to shine on your wedding day.
- Make your guests comfortable Think about what the weather will likely be at the time of day and month of the year of your outdoor wedding. Sunny and hot? Don’t leave your guests uncomfortably melting – have your ushers give guests ice-cold bottles of water as they are seated. Consider printing your wedding program on a fan so that guests may cool themselves. Don’t forget to have plenty of sunscreen on hand as well. For a very warm location, look into renting large electric fans (don’t forget a generator) and/or a tent to shade the suns rays. If it will be cold and damp, make sure you tell guests that so they can wear extra layers. A simple xeroxed insert will do. You might want to have lap blankets on hand, or rent portable heaters.
- Have a backup plan What will you do if it rains? The ideal outdoor wedding location has an indoor location waiting just in case. Many brides and grooms opt to have their ceremony outside and reception inside. In a pinch, the tables can be scooted to the back of the room during the ceremony. A tent is another option, but only for light to moderate rain storms. A heavy rain will soak the ground underneath, leaving guests with soggy and muddy shoes. Make sure any tent you rent is sturdy so it won’t flip over, and that it has thick and weighted sides.
- Plan for Wind Many outdoor weddings suffer from windy conditions. Avoid light fabrics like chiffons and china silks in your dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Tell your hairstylist that you’ll be having an outdoor wedding so she/he can plan a style that won’t leave you looking like Cousin It! Men in the wedding party should use pomade or other styling product. Again, tell your guests in a printed insert so that they can plan accordingly. And of course, make sure your tent will stand up to gusting winds or find an indoor backup plan.
- Can everybody hear? When you picture your dream wedding at the beach, you’re probably not hearing the roaring of the waves, the rushing wind, or the local kids running and screaming around you. Look into renting a sound system with clip mikes for the bride, groom and officiant. Your DJ or band may be able to easily arrange this for you.
- Decorations One of the bonuses of an outdoor wedding is the natural beauty around you, lessening your need to decorate. But you still need to do some work. Visit the site a week before your wedding to make sure the grass is mown, the ground raked, and the flowers have bloomed. If your wedding is at a public park, you may want to ask the groomsmen or friends to do this the morning of your ceremony. If it’s been an especially cold season, you may need to supplement the flowers with some potted bulbs from a florist. Other decorations you may want to consider include an arch or trellis to focus the ceremony and frame the bride and groom as they say their vows; strings of lights or lanterns in the trees; luminarias; torches; or farolitas.
- Make things tasty outside Does your caterer have experience planning an outdoor wedding menu? Make sure they’re planning things that will keep well outdoors in the heat. Avoid things like mayonnaise salads or dishes which must be served cold.
